At Least Five Police Officers Injured in Philadelphia Active Shooting

Over 4 dozen police vehicles, a helicopter, and an armored vehicle remain at the scene where there is an active shooter who is apparently targeting police.

The area is near Philadelphia’s Temple University, near the Nicetown and Tioga neighborhood. So far, five police officers have been shot, all were transported to the hospital and all in stable condition after a shooting Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at around 4:30 EST. The initial report that got police to the scene was a call about drug activity in the area.

One suspect has been taken into custody, but a second suspect remains at large. As of 6:00 p.m. EST the suspect is still shooting. Media helicopters are being asked to stay out of the area because their presence is hindering their operations. They are also asked to not provide the positions of the officers at the scene.
