A recall has been issued for Diamond of California labeled Macadamia Nuts due to possible Salmonella contamination, officials said. Snyder-Lance initiated the voluntary recall after testing by an FDA-contracted lab found traces of Salmonella in a 4 oz. package of California® Chopped Macadamia Nuts.
Although there have been no illnesses reported to date, consumers are being told not to consume the recalled products and contact the company for a full refund. “The quality and safety of our products is the top priority for our company,” Snyder-Lance officials said in a statement. “We apologize to our retail customers and consumers and sincerely regret any inconvenience. We are working and cooperating fully with the U. S. Food & Drug Administration on this voluntary recall.”
The recalled products only include the some of the 4 oz. Diamond of California Chopped Macadamia Nuts and the 2.2 ounce Diamond of California Macadamia Halves and Pieces. The recalled production codes are listed below.
To request a refund you can do so online at http://diamondfoods.com/contact/ or by calling 503-364-0399 between 8am and 5pm Pacific Time, Monday – Friday.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
