The 45-year-old man who inappropriately touched a 9-year-old boy in a Puente Hills Mall restroom was sentenced to three years in prison, officials said. Claremont resident, Richard Matthew Camarena pleaded no contest on August 15th to the one felony count of a lewd act upon a child. When released, Camarena will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
The boy had just finished watching a movie with his family on July 8th and went to use the restroom inside the mall. The child went inside and locked the stall door but soon he saw the door wiggle open and Camarena go inside. Camarena touched the boy but the boy struggled causing him to leave the restroom.
The boy exited the restroom and told his family, who called authorities. Camarena was captured on mall surveillance footage which was circulated throughout the media and social media. Camarena was located and arrested on July 23rd.
