Duarte Man Sentenced to Prison for Wrong-Way DUI Crash on the 210

A 26-year-old Duarte man was sentenced today for the driving under the influence killing a teen and seriously injuring the passenger.

Tyler Thompson was sentenced to 15 years to life for the collision that occurred as he was intoxicated and driving on the wrong side of the 210 freeway in the early morning hours of August 9, 2014.

While on the wrong side of the road he collided with another vehicle killing 19-year-old Justin Romo and injuring Romo’s 16-year-old girlfriend. He then fled the scene of the crash on food but was located and arrested shortly after.

On June 3, 2016, Thompson pleaded no contest to second-degree murder, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury within 10 years of another DUI offense and leaving the scene of an accident.
