MOUNTAIN PASS – The family of an elderly man and his newborn grandson are reaching out to the public for assistance with burial expenses following their untimely New Year’s Day death.
Family members said that Abraham Jones and his family were returning from the burial of his sister in Los Angeles when they got into a traffic collision on the 15 freeway. The family was nearing the Nevada border, where they reside in the City of Las Vegas.when they were involved in a traffic collision at around 4:45 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
The family was driving northbound in the #2 lane of 15 freeway traffic south of Mountain Pass in a 2007 Infiniti G35. The area had dense fog possibly causing him to collide into the back of a 2015 Nissan Altima, also traveling northbound. The G35 came to a rest in the center median and the Altima stopped in the #1 (fast) lane of traffic. Abraham Jones, 79, left the other three occupants; two adult females and a 2-month-old baby in the vehicle while he stepped outside of the vehicle.
As he stood behind his vehicle, he and his vehicle were struck by a 2007 Toyota Corolla. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Timol Jenkins Jr, his two-month-old grandson, the middle rear passenger was also pronounced dead at the scene. The other passengers sustained major injuries and were rushed to UMC Las Vegas for treatment.
The family of Jones and Baby Jenkins have set up a Go Fund Me Account to assist in a proper burial for the family members.
