A popular male sexual enhancement dietary supplement has been found to have an ingredient that may interact with other prescription medications the FDA said. “Ready Man!”, sold online including on www.Amazon.com and possibly in retail stores was found by the FDA to contain sildenafil. Being that many men requiring this type of drug or supplement do have additional medical conditions, the FDA warns consumers to not purchase or use this product.
Sildenafil is an active ingredient found in the prescription drug Viagra, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Being that the ingredient is undeclared, and being that it is sold without a prescription, consumers are left unaware of the possible risks. “This undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels,” FDA officials said. “Men with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates.”
The FDA warns that many dietary supplements are marketing as natural, but have been recently found to contain hidden drugs or chemicals. These products many times include those used for sexual enhancement, weight loss, and bodybuilding. The FDA is not able to test all of these supplements and warn that some may have potentially harmful ingredients.
Both healthcare professionals and patients are encouraged to report any adverse events or side effects related to the use of this product.
