FONTANA – Three Fontana daycare providers were arrested on the morning of Tuesday, November 8, 2016, after an investigation into the death of a child who was in their care.
The child, identified as 1-year-old Deacon Morin was found unresponsive following being put down for a nap on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at the Little Impressions Day Care, also known as Marriott Family Child Care in the 6800 block of Royal Crest Place. Through investigation, detectives learned that Morin was placed down for a nap wearing an amber beaded necklace around his neck. When the child was located unresponsive he was transported to a local hospital, where he died 5 days later.
Sagan Marriott, 27, Rebecca Lutz, 29, and Deborah Jimenez, 52 were all arrested for child endangerment after detectives learned that emergency care was not immediately called when the child was located unresponsive and not breathing. Authorities said that Sagan and Rebecca, who found the child called Deborah who responded to the home. The two waited for Deborah to arrive before calling 911. The daycare was also found to have more than 4 times the amount of children that it authorized under licensing regulations.
“ The facility was licensed by the State of California, Department of Community Care Licensing, to allow no more than 4 infants at the facility at any time,” Fontana Police officials said. “On the day of this incident, there were 6 infants and at least 12 additional children present.”
Jimenez, the owner of the facility, employed Lutz and Marriott. According to authorities, Jimenez knowingly exceeded the maximum limits. The official cause of death has not yet been determined. The cause remains under investigation by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office. Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact Detective Guith at 909-350-7723.
