FORT WALTON BEACH, Fl. – A Florida man was arrested after attacking a bedroom mattress with a bedpost and his hands thinking his girlfriend was hiding a man inside it.
The incident took place in Fort Walton Beach, Florida when the suspect, Felipe Oquendo, 37, was high on methamphetamine. He walked into the bedroom where his girlfriend was at at the home on Willow Bend at around 1:10 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2019. Okaloosa County Sheriff’s officials said that Oquendo became angry and refused to let his girlfriend to leave the bedroom. His girlfriend told deputies that Oquendo was acting erratic, thinking she was cheating on him with “a man in the mattress”.
He grasped onto a bedpost from the bed and violently stabbed it with a bedpost. He then continued to rip it apart with his hands. He locked to door to the bedroom so his girlfriend could not leave. He began moving the mattress around attempting to find the man hiding inside of it, which allowed her time to unlock the door and leave to call for help. When deputies arrived, Oquendo was lying on his stomach on the mattress while holding it down. He told deputies that he was fighting the man inside the mattress and was holding him down when the mattress man, slipped out and got away.
Felipe Oquendo was charged with Domestic Violence, False Imprisonment, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He admitted to smoking methamphetamine earlier that day. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
