CORONA – A 41-year-old Lake Elsinore man who allegedly preyed on underaged females while volunteering to coach at two Corona high schools was arrested on Thursday.
Authorities said that the investigation into the sexual misconduct with the minors began when a 17-year-old female reported that Draper Mitchell had sexually explicit conversations with her while she was an employee at Player’s Edge, a Corona basketball gym that Mitchell was part owner of.
A second female who was also 17-years-old also came forward and reported to have quit her job at the basketball gym after Mitchell allegedly committed a sexual battery on her. A third minor female was also interviewed and told authorities that Mitchell engaged in a sex act with her while they were in the City of Eastvale.
Mitchell was a volunteer coach at Santiago and Eleanor Roosevelt High Schools in the City of Corona. “Corona-Norco Unified School District officials confirmed Mitchell is no longer a volunteer coach and did not return this season,” Corona Police officials said. “At this time, there are no known allegations of misconduct on school property.”
All allegations of child annoyance and unlawful sex acts with minors to date have been with girls ages 15-17 years old. In 2010, Corona detectives investigated Mitchell after a 15-year-old girl reported similar allegations against him, but due to a lack of evidence, the case was suspended.
Detectives believe there are other possible victims who have not yet come forward. Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact Det. John Garcia at 951-739-4858 or via email at John.Garcia@CoronaCA.gov.
