SAN FRANCISCO – A 34-year-old Hesperia man was arrested for the beating murder of an Australian man in San Francisco Friday night.
At around 2:15 a.m. the victim identified as Matthew Bate was walking in the 2500 block of Van Ness Avenue with friends when he was involved in a verbal altercation that escalated becoming physical. At some point, Bate ended up on the ground unconscious.
When emergency personnel arrived they found Bate suffering from major head trauma. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Several were detained, but only David Murillo, 34, of Hesperia was arrested. Murillo was in court on Tuesday where he pleaded not guilty. Murillo, a father of two, remains in custody at a Bay Area jail for murder.
