LUCERNE VALLEY – A Lucerne Valley man was arrested for attempted murder after assaulting a burglary victim, a deputy, and another victim who attempted to assist the deputy authorities said.
At around 7:05 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017, deputies responded to the 35700 block of Rosewood Street for the report of an assault of a victim who was bleeding “from head to toe”. The victim stated that the suspect had physically assaulted him and attempted to sexually assault him while in his home.
A Victor Valley station deputy responded and located Jeffrey Ryan Gilbert, 44, who matched the victim’s description, walking on the shoulder of Highway 18 not far from the victim’s home. When Gilbert saw the deputy, he ran but the deputy caught up with him. As the deputy attempted to take him into custody he resisted and subsequently assaulted the deputy. A citizen saw the assault and stopped to assist causing Gilbert to fight both the citizen and the deputy until a second deputy arrived and he was taken into custody.
The deputies learned that Gilbert assaulted and burglarized the victim, who sustained major injuries as a result of the assault. The victim was airlifted to a trauma center and remains in stable condition. Gilbert was booked into the High Desert Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $1,100,000 bail. Two days following his arrest, the District Attorney’s office filed felony charges which include, attempted murder, burglary, and assault on a peace officer
