BAKER – A 21-year-old man was struck and killed on the 15 Freeway on Friday night. At around 9:05 p.m. a 26-year-old Compton man was driving a Kia Forte northbound near Basin Road approaching a Toyota Camry that was parked on the shoulder. The three occupants of the Toyota, a 15-year-old girl, a 59-year-old man, and a 21-year-old man were all outside of the vehicle.
For reasons that still remain under investigation, the Kia crossed the line into the right shoulder and struck the 21-year-old man identified as Michael Coleman. Paramedics responded to the scene and performed lifesaving measures to no avail. Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kia came to a rest on the desert east of the road. The driver did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision. None of the other occupants of the Toyota were injured. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor of the collision. The collision was is currently under investigation by the CHP Barstow Area.
