Ohio Mother Kills Son While Attempting to Abandon Him and His Siblings

BRONX, Ny. – A 23-year-old Bronx, New York, mother claims she is innocent of any wrongdoing leading to the death of her 1-year-old son.

Daira Santana-Gonzalez called 911 when she woke up on the morning following a 12-hour work day to find her son, Darwin Gonzalez-Santana unresponsive in his bed. Daira returned home from her job the night before to find her husband, Antonio Modesto Gonzalez, and his cousin at the home watching the toddler.

Exhausted from a long day working at a local restaurant, Daira fell asleep. When she work up she attempted to wake Darwin, but he did not respond. On December 27, 2018, at around 10:14 a.m., police were alerted to the unresponsive child. Immediately they began administering CPR on the toddler. They put him in a patrol car and rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Coroner’s officials determined that the toddler had a combination of heroin and fentanyl, which his father was selling. Inside the home, detectives found packages and drugs, including cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl. In January 23, 2019, Daira Santana Gonzalez was arrested for the death of her son. Antonio Modesto-Gonzalez has not yet been arrested and his location is unknown at this time.

Meanwhile Daira says that she was unaware of the illegal and dangerous drug-related activity was happening in her apartment home.
