CAJON PASS – Six San Bernardino County Fire Department Firefighters were trapped today when they were working on defending homes and evacuating residents in the Swarthout Canyon area west of Cajon Pass. The firefighters were able to find shelter in a nearby structure, fire officials said in a news release.
Two of the firefighters sustained minor injuries, one with smoke inhalation and the second with minor burns. Both were transported to local hospitals where they were treated. The two injured firefighters were released from the hospital and are back out working on defending structures. One engine also sustained moderate fire damage.
