NEW CASTLE, DE. – A Delaware man was arrested after running out of gas at the scene of a  beauty supply robbery, police said.

At around 3:26 p.m., on Saturday, August 17, 2019, a suspect walked into the Beauty World, located at 2062 New Castle Avenue. With his face concealed, the suspect entered the store, approached the cashier and while brandishing a knife, demanded money. The victim handed the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. He then left the store and got into The passenger side of a Jeep Compass that was parked in the fire lane.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Theodore Ray Davis II, 31,  attempted to start the vehicle, but the vehicle would not start because it was out of gas. Davis and his passenger fled on foot to Collins Park. “ Davis returned to the vehicle a short time later with fuel and as he attempted to drive away was stopped by officers from the Delaware River and Bay Authority who took him into custody without incident,” Delaware State Police officials said. He was then turned over to the custody of Troopers.

Through investigation, it was learned that Davis was the driver and he was aware and a willing participant in the robbery.

Davis was charged with one count each of Robbery 1st Degree and Conspiracy 2nd Degree. He was then arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on $21,500.00 unsecured bail.

The identity of the second suspect is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing. The victim was not injured as a result of the robbery.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective B. McDerby of the Troop 2 Robbery Unit by calling 302-365-8436.
