Turmeric Purchased at Big Lots Recalled Due to Elevated Lead Levels

Turmeric sold at Big Lots is being recalled due to elevated levels of lead found in one lot of the product.  “Fresh Finds Ground Turmeric” is packaged in 3.75 ounce PET jars, the FDA said. Codes on the affected product are B/B 03/08/19 and B/B 05/18/19 which is printed on the neck of the container.

The product UPC code is 81026-01230. These were sold at Big Lots Stores across the United States. The elevated lead levels were found during routine sampling conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ food inspectors.

There have been no illnesses reported as a result of this problem but lead can accumulate in the body.  Too much can put a person at risk of health problems. These problems can cause mental and physical development and learning deficiencies. Those pregnant and young children should pay extra attention to avoiding exposure. Anyone concerned about the blood lead level should contact their healthcare provider for testing.

Those who purchased the “Fresh Finds Ground Turmeric”  with the codes printed above should discard the product. Consumers with questions can call (210)564-0435
