GAINESVILLE, Fl. – A woman from Gainesville, Florida attempted to take the lives of herself and her two boys on Friday.
Authorities said that the woman told a longtime friend of her plans of slamming her car into another vehicle, taking all of their lives. She called the plan, “God’s Will” just hours before getting into her van with her 4 and 6-year-old children. Police said that Melissa Gail Mack got onto Highway 441 heading north. When she noticed a gas tanker heading in the opposite direction she headed straight towards it in the southbound lanes. The driver of the truck swerved away from her vehicle causing her to continue on, without striking the tanker.
Mack made a U-turn and slammed into the back of the tanker. Her van burst into flames. Her and her two boys were trapped inside until two witnesses rushed to their aid and pulled everyone from the van. The children were taken to the hospital to be medically cleared and were later taken into the custody of Children and Family Services. Mack was also cleared medically and booked into the Alachua County jail for three counts of premeditated attempted murder for the children and the truck driver. She is being held in lieu of $900,000 bail.
