MOUNTAIN PASS – A 79-year-old man and a 2-month-old boy died as a result of a New Year’s Day traffic collision.
At around 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2017, a male driver was traveling northbound in the #2 lane of the I-15 south of Mountain Pass in a 2007 Infiniti G35. As he drove in the dense fog, he collided into the back of a northbound traveling 2015 Nissan Altima.
CHP officials said that the G35 came to a rest in the center median, while the Altima became disabled in the #1 lane of traffic. The elderly male driver, identified as Abraham Jones, 79 of Las Vegas, Nevada got out of the vehicle and while standing behind it was struck by a 2007 Toyota Corolla. Jones was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of his injuries. The middle rear passenger of the Altima, Timol Jenkins Jr. was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The other three passengers of the Altima sustained major injuries and were transported by ground ambulance to St. Rose in Henderson, Nevada. All three were subsequently transferred to UMC Las Vegas all with major injuries. CHP officials said that alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in either of these collisions.
