VICTORVILLE – One person died as a result of a Monday afternoon Uhaul theft at the Rodeway Inn.
At 1:48 p.m. deputies from the Victorville Station responded to the Rodeway Inn located in the 15300 block of La Paz Drive just north of Mojave Drive for the report a theft of a 24-foot Uhaul truck. While en route deputies were informed that a woman had been run over as the male fled in the stolen Uhaul.
In addition, the reporting party stated that the woman was unresponsive, but was breathing. The woman was rushed to Victor Valley Global Medical Center where at 2:28 p.m. she was pronounced dead. A male subject who rented the Uhaul attempted to stop the theft but was unable to, he suffered minor injuries from grabbing onto the handle and being tossed from the vehicle.
The suspect was only described as a White man, with short dark brown hair. He was described as being approximately 5’10”, with a medium build. He was last seen wearing blue shorts, black t-shirt, a brown backpack, had sunglasses on his head, and black shoes with a white sole. The suspect’s sunglasses were left at the scene according to witnesses.
Deputies responded to the Victor Valley Global Hospital in order to follow up with the investigation. The exact details of the incident are unknown at this time, there is a possible suspect identified but it is unclear if the suspect is in custody Monday night. It is also unclear if the female was with the suspect or just an innocent bystander, but a witness at the scene said that she appeared to be pregnant. The Uhaul was later located less than a mile from the incident location.
