The wife who fled with two children after the 2015 murder of her husband was arrested and will now face homicide charges, authorities said.
On May 10, 2015, friends and coworkers of Antoine Smith became concerned about his absence leading to multiple calls to the Sheriff’s Department. The callers reported that they were receiving texts from his cell phone, but based on the text style, the texts appeared as though someone else was texting from his phone. The following day a missing person report was filed and on May 12, 2015, a welfare check was conducted at the home in the 13000 block of Brynwood Street in the City of Victorville. When they arrived, they found Antoine inside the home deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.
Through investigation, deputies learned that 35-year-old Antoine Smith lived with his wife Letecia Smith, 33-years-old at the time, and their two daughters, who were 8 and 4 years old. Leticia was quickly identified as the suspect, but was not able to be located. It was believed Leticia had fled to Mexico with the couple’s two children.
In December 2021, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Cold Case Homicide Team assumed the investigation. With the help of Mexican authorities, they located Smith, who was living in Rosarito, Mexico. A extraditable warrant was issued for Antoine’s murder and Leticia Smith was arriested in Mexico without incident.
The children, Isabel and Abigail, were found unharmed. The U.S. Marshals Service gained custody of Smith from the Mexican Authorities where she was subsequently taken into custody by the Sheriff’s investigators. Leticia is currently being held at the West Valley Detention Center for Murder and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
