9-Month Pregnant Paso Robles Woman & Her Unborn Son Murdered

PASO ROBLES, Calif. – A Paso Robles mother and her unborn child were allegedly murdered by the father of the child authorities said.

On Sunday, March 3, 2019, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to a disabled vehicle on Highway 46 West, near York Mountain Road. When they arrived the suspect, later identified as, Daniel Raul Rodriguez Johnson, 31, Paso Robles, abandoned the vehicle with a 2 and 4-year-old girl inside.

The suspect proceeded to steal the CHP vehicle, leading the CHP officers and Sheriff’s Deputies on a pursuit. The pursuit ended when a spike strip was deployed, disabling the vehicle near San Simeon.  When the vehicle became disabled, the suspect fled on foot but he was located a short time later. When he saw authorities, he brandished a knife at the deputies. Deputies fired bean bags at him in order to subdue him long enough to take him into custody.

Following the arrest, deputies checked the suspect’s home in the 2800 block of Sorrel Lane in rural Paso Robles where they found a deceased woman, later identified as 27-year-old Carrington Jane Broussard, who was determined to be 9 months pregnant. Both Broussard and the baby were confirmed deceased. An autopsy is underway in order to determine the cause and manner of her death.

Johnson and  Broussard were determined to be in a relationship at the time of the murder. The victim’s two daughters were placed with relatives. Johnson was booked into jail for two counts of willful cruelty to a child with the possibility of injury or death, felony reckless driving and felony auto theft. The Sheriff’s Office is planning to request two additional charges of homicide be filed with the District Attorney’s Office against Johnson.

Carrington Jane Broussard’s family is seeking financial assistance to assist with the burial of her and her unborn son.
