ADELANTO – Adelanto three free dump days each year, which are proving to be very popular with residents needing to get rid of excess trash including large items. The April Free Dump Day had huge results, likely because residents were spring cleaning. Still, the July Free Dump Day had a great turnout of residents wanting to dispose of trash for free and in their own city.
Although it was 12 tons collected in July then what was collected in April, the total was still 54.7 tons of trash collected. Trash included mattresses, furniture, household trash, televisions, computer monitors, small tires without rims, paints, oil and really just about anything that should be disposed of at the county landfill. These events are not only to provide convenience to residents, but to keep Adelanto cleaner by providing a diversion from illegal dumping. “We typically conduct the free dump day at the Stadium along with the community clean-up at the designated area in the city but because of the extreme heat this year we only focused on the dump day,” said Steven Peltier, Community Safety Manager.
Peltier said that the Mud Run, which was held the same day may have caused some people not to attend. Four residential curbside bulky item pick ups with up to five items are provided by AVCO Disposal without any extra charge. Adelanto officials encourage residents to attend the next dump day, scheduled for Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Adelanto Stadium.
