ADELANTO – A 37-year-old Adelanto man who was on probation for a Los Angeles County offense, was cited and released after stealing a purse out of a woman’s vehicle on Wednesday. Deputies from the Adelanto station were dispatched to the Dunes Gas Station, located at 11500 Bartlett Avenue in the City of Adelanto for a purse theft that had just occurred at around 9:30 a.m.
“The suspect, later identified as Steven Mejia, approached the victim and offered to help her put air in her tires,” Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station officials said. “Mejia told the victim to go inside and ask to have the air turned on. Once the victim walked inside, Mejia entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole her purse.” Deputies followed up with a visit to Mejia’s home where the victim’s purse was located. Mejia was taken into custody and cited for Petty Theft. He was released from custody at 5:36 p.m.
