ADELANTO – With the flags flying half-staff the City of Adelanto not only stands in solidarity with Orlando but also stands on guard. According to City officials, the armed security guard just inside the doors of the modern two-story city hall building is there temporarily as a result of the shooting at The Pulse, Orlando Night Club.
The shooting early Sunday morning has been deemed the most deadly shooting in American history leaving 49 people dead and 53 people injured. The tragic event brought out feelings of anguish, sadness,
empathy and support not only in Orlando, Florida but throughout the United States.
Cities all over the country held candlelight vigils, set up blood drives and donated to the victims and their families. These were just some of the ways people showed solidarity and felt helpful after once feeling helpless.
Adelanto City Manager Cindy Herrera said that there is no reason for alarm but they wanted the staff and visitors to have the added sense of security when visiting the City Hall. The city hired the guard to send a message that they would not be vulnerable to criminal activity.
