APPLE VALLEY – Two Apple Valley Academies are proud to receive a prestigious award and to be the only institution to be recognized for multiple academies. The recognition is given by the California Department of Education (CDE), who along with with partners at the Career and College Academy Support Network and Graduate School of Education, UC Berkeley visited each site to determine compliance with the California Education Code. They also reviewed reporting documentation, and used several other determining factors like low attrition rates and exemplary graduation rates.
The CDE selected Apple Valley High School’s Computer and Media Pathway (CAMP) and Medical and Health Science Technology (MAHST) Academies as a 2017 California Partnership Academies’ Distinguished Academy. Only 14 total programs will be recognized, with Apple Valley High School programs being two of them. These programs have been chosen after demonstrating excellence in the implementation of high quality educational programs that combine core academics with career technical education for California’s at-risk students,
“Having the California Department of Education validate what we all know about our academies is a very special honor,”Dustin Conrad, AVHS Principal, said. “The students that represent these programs are top notch and will be outstanding contributors to our community. The teachers that lead these academies follow their passion and exemplify what it means to be an educator. I am proud to be part of such an amazing school.”
The designation as a Distinguished Academy makes both programs eligible to participate in an eight-year national study and to participate in statewide curriculum development school officials said in a news release. The awards will be received on Monday, March 6, 2017, at a ceremony being held in Sacramento.
