Apple Valley Teen Missing for 2 Weeks Found in Her Swim Coaches Bedroom

SAN BERNARDINO, Ca. – A 31-year-old swim coach was arrested for concealing the whereabouts of a teen girl who was reported missing.

The 16-year-old Apple Valley girl was last seen at her home in the 18000 block of Menahka Court, Apple Valley on July 22, 2020. Authorities released a photo of the teen, as well as information regarding the circumstances and her description. Investigation led to multiple search warrants and eventually to the home John Casillas, her former swim coach. 

On Wednesday, August 5, 2020, a search warrant was served on the home of Casillas, which he shared with his 62-year-old father, Alfonso Casillas. During the search, the teen was located hiding inside John Casillas’ bedroom. Detective contacted John Casillas at a Arrowhead Country Club, located at 3433 N. Parkside Drive in the City of San Bernardino where he taught swim lessons.

Both father and son were transported to Sheriff’s Headquarters in San Bernardino for further investigation. Authorities said John was aware of the girl’s age and that they were looking for her. 


John was arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center for PC278, Concealment of a Child from Legal Guardian/Parent with bail set at $50,000. On Thursday, August 6th at 5:45 a.m. John posted bail and was released from custody. Regarding criminal charges against Alfonso, detectives will submit the investigation to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
