VICTORVILLE – The Family Assistance Program—Fam Spot— is a place that many youth use as a home away from home where they can gain positive support, have a place to do homework, or just hang out. The Fam Spot is excited to announce the building of a brand new playground. KaBOOM!, Let’s Play, The Don Ferrarese Charitable Foundation, and the Family Assistance Program, are making it possible for the first playground in Old Town Victorville, which is open to the public. The playground will be constructed in a period of only three days. In order to make the three-day timeline possible, the help of the community is essential. How would you like to be proud of being part of this exciting new project?
In order to complete this important and exciting project, 250 volunteers will be needed. These volunteers can participate in many necessary parts of the preparation and building of this playground. Are you part of the Victorville community? Or better yet, the Victor Valley community? As defined by the dictionary, “community” is, “a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.” Have you shown a contribution to your community? Wouldn’t you like to proudly say, “I helped build that”, as you drive by the playground overflowing with the jovial laughter of children?
Volunteers will be needed for preparation on Thursday, September 13th, at 6:30 a.m. The build day will be on Saturday, September 15th. On September 15th, the work is expected to take place from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Many community partners in the City of Victorville will be in attendance to support this exciting event. Volunteers will receive free breakfast, lunch, and snacks. For the children, there will be fun games. “Everything that will be built on the playground is what the residents have chosen and what they feel will benefit our kids,” said Fam Spot Project Manager Brigette Martinez. Youth are also welcomed and encouraged to participate in building the playground. “We can use the high school volunteers for registration and serve the food but they cannot be on the actual build section. They will, however, have other duties that we can use help in,” added Martinez.
The FAM Spot—Community Center, is located at 16857 C Street (near 6th Street) in the City of Victorville. Are you ready to pitch in on this exciting community project? Register now.
