VICTORVILLE – A 23-year-old man was found to be possession of a firearm in his pocket while shopping at a Victorville Walmart on Tuesday afternoon. At around 1:50 p.m. Matthew Butler, 23 of Apple Valley was in line at the store located at 12234 Palmdale Road in the City of Victorville when a customer noticed it in his back pocket.
Deputies from Victorville station responded to the store and made contact with Butler as he remained in line at the customer service counter. Butler was found to have a loaded handgun in his possession and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the High Desert Detention Center, where he was booked for being a felon in the possession of a firearm and being a gang member in possession of a weapon. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Thursday afternoon.
