APPLE VALLEY – At around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016, dispatchers received a report of a silver Toyota Tacoma and a Black Chevy Suburban making a dangerous U-turn on Maple Avenue in the City of Hesperia. The vehicles continued northbound toward Bear Valley Road making a right turn to head east.
A second witness reported, per scanner traffic that the two driving eastbound in the westbound Bear Valley lanes of traffic near Industrial Boulevard. At around 10:16 p.m. a traffic collision and a man with a gun were both reported on Bear Valley Road near Jess Ranch Parkway.
Witnesses said that the two Hispanic men exited their vehicles and the man in the Suburban threw his rifle, which was equipped with a scope into the Jack in The Box trash can. He continued on, running toward the Cinemark movie theater per witness reports.
The second man, the driver of the silver Toyota Tacoma was reported to be armed with a handgun, whereabouts were unknown but it was reported that he got back into his vehicle and headed westbound on Bear Valley Road. The driver was only described as a Hispanic man in dark clothing.
Deputies were able to recover the rifle in the Jack in the Box trash can in front of the restaurant. Preliminary information indicates this was a road rage incident with a car-to-car shooting. A witness at Cinemark reported the suspect was at the location shortly later, he was taken into custody and arrested without further incident. A second person was arrested in a restaurant in the same shopping center.
Sheriff’s Spokeswoman, Cindy Bachman confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. She also said that since it was still an active fluid investigation official information would be forthcoming.
