VICTORVILLE, Ca. – An 89-year-old male pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver who did not see him crossing a residential street on Monday, authorities said.
At around 4:30 p.m. 70-year-old Myrtle Meggs, the driver, was driving her white Chrysler minivan east on Luna Road, approaching Princeton Drive as Manuel Fernandez was attempting to cross Luna Road as he walked south down Princeton Drive. Meggs called 911 to report the accident and deputies from the Victorville Station responded to the call. When they got to the location they found Fernandez on the roadway of Luna Road suffering from major injuries.
Due to his advanced age and the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to a trauma center but died as a result of his injuries.
