PASADENA – A busy Thursday evening at the Cheesecake Factory in Old Town Pasadena turned into a nightmare for those dining at the restaurant. No one was injured, but the patrons were quite shaken up after a man wearing all black clothing and a black beanie threw an explosive device into the restaurant. The incident was reported at around 6:07 p.m. when heavy smoke filled the restaurant and patrons evacuated. Authorities said that the device was determined to be a homemade pyrotechnic device.
The incident is being investigated and the suspect is not in custody at this time. The suspect was described as a Hispanic or Middle Eastern man with a heavy beard. He was also described as being approximately 6′ tall and thin. There is no known motive at this time.
The LA County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad and the Pasadena police responded to the scene. Authorities also said that the FBI was contacted to assist in the investigation.
