BRONX, NY. – The father of seven-month-old twins pulled his vehicle onto the side of the road, got out and screamed after forgetting his twins inside his car for 8 hours on Friday.
A witness called authorities, when they arrived, they found the unresponsive baby boy and girl, the New York Post reported. The babies were secured inside their car seats in the backseat of the vehicle, foaming from their mouths. Their father, 39-year-old Juan Rodriguez, had them in the backseat of his Honda Accord, which he parked at his place of employment, the James J. Peters VA Hospital in Kingsbridge at 8:00 a.m.
After finishing work on the nearly 90 degree day, he returned to his vehicle at 4:00 p.m., he started his vehicle and began driving. Shortly after beginning to drive, he noticed the lifeless bodies of Maritza and Phoenix, his infant twins in the backseat.
During a police interview, he said that he had forgotten that the twins were in the vehicle. When emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, the twins were pronounced them dead. The father was arrested and has been charged with two counts each of criminally negligent homicide and manslaughter.
