EL MONTE – A former Arroyo High School science teacher was sentenced to three years in prison today for having a sexual relationship with a teen girl, officials said. The El Monte Police began investigating when a concerned parent reported the inappropriate teacher-student relationship to authorities last year.
During the investigation, the victim told authorities that the sexual relationship began in 2013 and lasted for around 6 months. On September 1, 2015, 58-year-old Richard Paul Daniels was taken into custody. In court on Thursday morning, Daniels, a Fontana resident, pleaded no contest to one felony count of lewd act upon a child. In addition to the 3 years in prison, Daniels must also required to register as lifetime sex offender.
