FORT IRWIN – A 51-year-old Fort Irwin woman was arrested for the abuse of a 1-year-old baby boy officials said.
On Tuesday, July 24, 2018, the toddler was transported to Weed Army Community Hospital in Fort Irwin to Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) for the treatment of a left broken arm and clavicle. The child was seen by a Forensic Pediatrician, who determine that the child had injuries consistent with child abuse including a broken left and right arm, broken left clavicle, scratches to the neck area and bruising to his left and right ears.
Investigators learned that the toddler was under the care of Bertha Alicia Berrera, a family member, when he was injured. Berrera was arrested on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. She was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for Willful Cruelty to a Child. She is being held in lieu of $100,000.
