RANCHO CUCAMONGA – A 47-year-old Granada Hills convicted felon was found to be in the possession of a firearm in the City of Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday evening. At around 7:05 p.m. deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Station responded to the report of a man with a gun. The witnesses reported that a man driving near Foothill Boulevard and Rochester Avenue was pointing a firearm at drivers in an attempt to get them to move.
Deputies arrived moments later to find the suspect vehicle. James Welbourn, the driver was found to be on felony probation for the sale and transport of a controlled substance and theft. He was detained without incident as deputies searched his vehicle. During the search, deputies found several large knives, an ax, two pellet guns, a pellet rifle, and a flare gun.
Welbourn was arrested for a felon in possession of a firearm and booked into the West Valley Detention Center. His bail was set at $50,000.00.
