INDUSTRY – A 49-year-old man faces up to 13 years in prison for the assault of a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy. On December 22, 2016, the deputy responded to a call reporting the theft in a store in the 17100 block of Gale Avenue in the City of Industry.
When searching for the suspect, the deputy spotted Christian Richard Ferrini, 49, of Hacienda Heights crouching near a vehicle in the store parking lot. The deputy approached Ferrini ordering him to put his hands up. Ferrini instead ran to his vehicle, put the vehicle in reverse and almost hitting the deputy and damaging the deputy’s patrol car.
Prosecutors said that Ferrini fled the scene and was located two weeks later. He was charged with assault on a peace officer. District Attorney’s officials said that the defendant has a previous conviction for burglary in 1986, evading an officer, willful disregard in 1996, petty theft in 1990 and 2010, and grand theft in 2010 and 2011.
Ferrini pleaded not guilty on Thursday and is scheduled to return to the West Covina Superior Court Thursday, February 2, 2017.
