Man Tossed From Vehicle & Struck by Big Rig After Driver Attempts to Pass on Shoulder

HELENDALE, Calif. – A Helendale man was arrested after holding his estranged wife and his 3-year-old hostage inside the home in the 27400 block of Outrigger Lane on Thursday.

Just after 2:15 p.m. deputies from the Victor Valley station were dispatched to the home for a report of a domestic dispute. The caller stated that Ryan Bomgaars, 45, was inside the home with his estranged wife and his daughter. During the call, the caller also reported that there were gunshots coming from inside the home. When deputies arrived they confirmed that Bomgaars and the two victims were still inside of the home, with both victims being held hostage. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution and roads leading to the home were barricaded.

The woman and child were set free from the home unharmed, but Bomgaars remained inside. Multiple gunshots were heard from inside the home while deputies attempted to negotiate to get Bomgaars to willingly exit the home. He continued to refuse and at 9:30 p.m. the SED entered the home and took Bomgaars into custody.

Ryan Bomgaars was arrested without incident and booked at High Desert Detention Center for assault with a firearm on person and false imprisonment. He is currently being held in lieu of $200,000. Bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Monday, June 10, 2019.
