NEWBERRY SPRINGS, Ca. – A 74-year-old Albuquerque, New Mexico man was killed while driving his 2016 Polaris Slingshot eastbound in the #2 lane of the I-40 west of milepost 40 SBD 32.00.
On Monday, September 2, 2019, at around 5:36 p.m. the man allowed his vehicle to travel to the right from the #2 lane, across the right shoulder, down the descending dirt embankment where it overturned. When overturning the driver was partially ejected before the vehicle came to a rest on its roof, trapping the driver.
The CHP officers were the first to arrive at the scene and located the driver, who was not responsive. The driver was removed from the vehicle and CHP officers attempted to save his life until emergency medical personnel arrived. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a contributing factor in the collision. The collision is under investigation by the CHP, Barstow area.
