BARSTOW – A dog, while walking with his owner, dug up a human skull in a quarry near Soap Mine Road and Old State Highway 58 in Barstow on Monday.
Barstow station deputies responded to the report of the possible human remains at around 10:37 a.m. When they arrived, the reporting party led deputies to what he believe was a human skull.
Based on the findings, investigators from the Specialized Investigations Division and a Coroner Investigator arrives at the location and determined that the skull was, in fact, human.
The coroner took the skull and will attempt to identify the victim authorities said. It is unknown how long the skull has remained in the desert or the cause of death. During the death investigation, which is ongoing, investigators searched the area, but no other bones were found.
