A 59-year-old Los Angeles-area man admitted to the intent to commit aggravated sexual abuse in a Georgia courtroom.
The guilty plea is admitting to a September 25, 2016, assault on a woman on the Fort Benning Military Reservation. During the assault, Alberto F. Islas threatened the victim with a firearm in an effort to coerce sexual relations, DOJ officials said.
Islas, who has remained in custody since the day of the incident, now faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000or both.
“This matter was resolved through swift action by the Military Police at Fort Benning and rapid investigation by the FBI, which arrested Mr. Islas and obtained the physical and testimonial evidence necessary to this successful prosecution on the day of the incident,” said US Attorney G.F. “Pete” Peterman, III.
