ELLICOTT CITY, Md. – A Howard County, Maryland man was arrested for stabbing and tying a dog to a tree, authorities said.
Concerned callers reported on December 30, 2019, that there was blood in the 8900 block of Town and Country Boulevard. When officers from the Howard County Police arrived they found a dead pit bull tied to a tree with its throat cut. “It appeared the dog had struggled to free itself before succumbing to its injuries,” police officials said in a written statement. Corey Markus Jones, 26, of Mountain Green Circle allegedly killed the dog, who belonged to his friend in Ellicott City.
Jones will face felony aggravated animal cruelty charges for stabbing the dog and then tying it to a tree. Through investigation, police found the apartment where the friends of the dog’s owner were watching the dog. Jones was identified as the person who killed the dog. He was found hiding in the bathtub with a closed shower curtain. Jones was charged with intentionally mutilating, torturing, and cruelly killing an animal. He was also charged with causing unnecessary suffering and pain. He is being held without bail at the Howard County Detention Center.
