VICTORVILLE, Ca. – Three suspects, one from Victorville, Barstow, and Los Angeles were arrested after an eight-month-long investigation into a murder at the Casa Bella Apartments in April.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at around 10:35 p.m. Dominic Beard, 29, of Victorville was found deceased inside an apartment home located at 16980 Nisqualli Road in the City of Victorville. Beard was found unresponsive in the apartment after they received a report of an assault When they arrived they found Beard who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Homicide detectives responded to the scene to assume thing investigation.
Through investigation it was learned that multiple suspects went to the victim’s home and he was shot during a suspected home-invasion robbery. Further investigation led to the identification of Edmond Smith, 31, a Victorville transient, Ravon Friend, 20, of Barstow, and Barion Walkins, 20, a Los Angeles transient, as suspects connected with the crime. Authorities said that Smith and Friend were involved in a physical altercation with the victim prior to the shorts fired that struck and killed the victim.
Watkins was in another room stealing property when the shooting occurred The suspects were identified by authorities as known gang members. It was determined that the suspects knew the victim prior to the shooting. Smith was already incarcerated on an unrelated charge and was booked on murder charges on January 3, 2020. Friend was arrested in Barstow on January 4, 2020 and was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for Murder. Walkins was arrested in Los Angeles on January 4, 2020 and was booked into the Central detention center for robbery. All are being held without bail.
