KENNEWICK, Wa. – A man burglarized a store and went across the street to get into his truck but as he walked over to his truck, he realized it was being stolen.

On August 25, 2019, at around 6:00 a.m., Kennewick Police responded to the 500 block of E. Bruneau for the report of an automobile theft. William Kelley, the vehicle owner, reported that someone stole his red 1992 Chevy pickup with maroon canopy, Washington State license place B96531X.

Police said in a news release, that Kelley had left his keys on the seat of the truck when he got out. A male subject riding a 10-speed bike rode his bike by and discovered the keys and threw his bicycle in the bed of the truck and left.

Police requested surveillance footage where they saw the theft unfold, including Kelley walking from across the street, witnessing his truck driving away, and even throwing his stolen goods at his truck.

The video raised additional questions and led to further investigation. Police discovered that Kelley was only at the location because he was stealing items from a store across the street.

A warrant was obtained for Kelley’s arrest. Officers located him and he was booked into jail for burglary later that morning. The vehicle is yet to be located and the suspect has not yet been identified.
