LUCERNE VALLEY – One man died and a second sustained major injuries as a result of a Monday night off-road vehicle accident. The collision occurred at around 11:15 p.m. in the area of Midway Avenue and Sunswept Drive, San Bernardino Sheriff’s officials said.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver 28-year-old Lucerne Valley resident, Antonio Contreras lost control of the quad and was subsequently ejected.
Upon arrival of emergency personnel, they located Contreras, who was in full arrest and immediately began CPR. Despite lifesaving, efforts he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
A second patient sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment. His/her current condition is unknown at this time.
The collision remains under investigation by California Highway Patrol.
