Man Sentenced For Killing Ex-Boyfriend to Collect $2.5 Million Life Insurance

GLENDALE – One of two brothers who conspired a plan to kill a Glendale man in order to collect his $2.5 million dollar insurance policy was sentenced on Thursday morning.

Hovanes “John” Maskovian, 37 after the jury trial found him guilty on June 24th, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Maskovian, was convicted of the first-degree murder and attempted kidnapping of Joshua West, his 33-year-old ex-boyfriend.

“Jurors also found true the special circumstances of lying in wait, murder for financial gain and murder during an attempted kidnapping,” District Attorney officials said in the new release.

The murder occurred on April 24, 2013, when Maskovian, his younger brother 31-year-old Hachik “Kriss” Maskovian and 22-year-old Nazaret “Nick” Bayamdzhyan lured West to a Sun Valley location. The men beat, stabbed, bit, ran over and shot West, authorities said. They then dumped his lifeless body in the 10200 block of Penrose Street in Sun Valley.

A jury also found Hachik “Kriss” Maskovian guilty of the same charges on June 23rd and he is scheduled for sentencing on August 26th, where he also faces life in prison. Nazret “Nick” Bayamdzhyan is still awaiting trial.
