VICTORVILLE – The autistic Victorville man who was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon was struck and killed by a vehicle early Wednesday morning.
The family of Rudy Gonzalez, 19, of Victorville, reported him missing on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 1, 2018. They reported last seeing Gonzalez near his home in the 15400 block of Ferndale Road at around 1:00 p.m. Gonzalez was reportedly wearing only a t-shirt, pajama pants, and was barefoot, causing more concern for the then critically missing young man.
A citizen reported a man matching Gonzalez’ description in the area at around 4:00 p.m., but still, responding deputies were unable to locate him. Deputies continued their search through the rest of the day and throughout the night using the Sheriff’s helicopter and K9 unit to no avail. Just before 3:50 a.m. the driver of a vehicle reported that he had hit something while on Air Expressway near Adelanto Road. The driver reported that it may have been a person. Deputies responded and confirmed it was in fact, a pedestrian, who was later confirmed to be Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver was cooperative with the investigation. The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is handling the collision investigation. Air Expressway from Nevada Avenue to Adelanto Road was closed throughout the investigation.
