MURRIETA, Calif. – A Murrieta K-9 is recovering after being shot in the jaw and neck area on Sunday morning.
In the early-morning hours, K-9 Mick was deployed to assist officers and deputies in the taking a carjacking suspect into custody. While working, the suspect shot K-9 Mick was shot by the suspect.
He was rushed to the emergency veterinarian at California Veterinary Specialist. He has been treated for non-life-threatening injuries. K-9 Mick was treated and released. He is now at home resting with his handler. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to active duty once he fully recovers.
“We are very proud of K-9 Mick’s performance,” Murrieta Police officials said. “The fact that no officers or deputies sustained any injuries were in large part because of K-9 Mick’s involvement. Mick and his brothers, Buck, Pak and Duke work hard every day to serve and protect the residents of Murrieta and surrounding cities. We are lucky to have them.”
