The National Weather Service of Los Angeles issued a Red Flag warning for Friday, October 7, 2016, as a result of stronger than usual Santa Ana winds. The warning will remain in effect until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016, as gusty north to northeasterly winds and low humidity are expected in both the mountains and valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, NWS officials said.
Winds are expected to be between 15-25 miles per hour with gusts expected to be between 30-40 miles per hour and will occur throughout the day until mid-afternoon. The drier and warmer than usual conditions, along with the dry fuels cause an increased risk of fires, which can quickly rage out of control. Later, Friday night the winds are expected to reduce in strength but humidity will remain low and temperatures will remain high.
Extreme caution should be exercised when using anything that has the potential to ignite a fire.
