CORONA – An officer-involved shooting left one left one man dead on Saturday morning. At around 2:09 a.m. officers from the Corona Police Department responded to a call reporting and assault with a deadly weapon at a business in the 1600 block of E. 6th Street in the City of Corona. Officers arrived at the scene and noticed the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene. They attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver continued on leading to a pursuit.
The pursuit continued for several minutes through the city and ended when the suspect lost control of the vehicle near 1st Street and Parkridge Avenue. Both of the male occupants got out of the vehicle, on fled on foot and the second produced a handgun. The officer fired striking the suspect and leading to his death at the scene. The name of the suspect will not be released so that family can first be notified. The other occupant in the vehicle was located a short distance away and was arrested. No officers or citizens were injured.
“Due to the jurisdictional responsibility, the Corona Police Department requested the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department assist with the investigation. Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit (CHU) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation,” Riverside County Sheriff’s officials said.
The Officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave per Department policy. The involved officers’ names will not be released at this time.
