BIG BEAR – A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy and an unidentified male died in a plane crash in the Big Bear Mountain area. At around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night deputies from the Apple Valley Station responded to the Apple Valley Airport to search for a vehicle belonging to one of the victims after they became overdue when flying in from Big Bear.
The vehicle was located at the airport and the Aviation Division was called in for assistance who began an aerial search covering the area between Big Bear and the Apple Valley airport. On Sunday morning at around 9:30 a.m. the single-engine aircraft was found down in the County area of Big Bear Mountain.
At the scene of the wreckage, the deceased woman, identified as Rebecca Joan Raymond and an adult male reported to be her fiance were located deceased.
“Rebecca is a San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Barstow Sheriff’s Station and, has been with the department since September of 2016,” Sheriff’s officials said. “ [The] FAA and NTSB were contacted and have responded to assist the Sheriff’s Aviation Division with the investigation. The cause of the collision is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing.”
